Wedding and Picnic Reception

We can't wait for you to come visit us in New Orleans - there is so much to do here! While we have a full day of activities on Saturday, we leave most of the weekend open for you to explore. We look forward to sharing this special day with those of you who can make it.

We know that flying and visiting at this time of the year may be difficult or expensive. We understand and don't want you to feel obliged to make the long trek. We look forward to seeing you another time soon.

If you aren't sure if you have RSVPed (anytime after November 2), please do it again. It should only take a minute or so. Click on the Red button to do so.

This is a kid friendly wedding, and yes, we've invited lots and lots of our close friends, so plus ones are welcome!
Schedule
Friday, March 15, 2019
5 pm: Rehearsal (immediate family only) at St. Joseph's Church.
6:30 pm Rehearsal Dinner at Southern Rep Theatre.
We will invite a smaller list of folks separately.

Attire: Ready for a day in the park. For the Mass please avoid shorts, but feel free to bring them for the reception.

11:30: Church Opens. Will & Alisa will be greeting those who arrive on the front steps. Please arrange your own transport to the church.
Noon: Nuptial Mass at St. Joseph's Church.
St. Joseph's Church hosts the Rebuild Center in the back of the property for those experiencing homelessness. Alisa worked here in 2006 with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps for one year, and Will is a parishioner here, and has volunteered over the years as well at the Rebuild Center.
2pm - 7pm: Reception Picnic at Reunion Shelter City Park
One of Alisa and Will's four engagements took place here where they like to go and walk around the park. The park is nearly 1,000 acres in size and was built largely during the 1930s by the Works Progress Administration.
4 Frederich's Ave, New Orleans, LA 70124

Four ways to get to the Reception:
1. Carpool with other people at the wedding
2. Streecar. Walk a few minutes and take the streetcar on Canal Street towards City Park. Walking Route here.
3. Lyft to the Park.
4. Bus transport (3 buses) provided for those unable to Lyft or streetcar.
We'll celebrate for the afternoon with crawfish, pizza, fried chicken, oysters, beer, and wine. If you live in New Orleans, please feel free to bring some food along. This is adjacent to a walking path, boats for rent, and playground. More details about City Park if you want to incorporate a trip to the amusement park or museum here.

Transportation
On flying here.
We've had some of our best almost-breakup conversations at the airport.
Fortunately, we won't be flying here.
For those of you who are, tickets can be expensive at times. We have found that ticket prices tend to be more reasonably priced 2-3 months out. Extending your weekend may also contribute to a cheaper flight.
We understand if flights make this trip prohibitive. We would love to celebrate with you another time and know that you are still a part of our cherished community.

You should be able to get around without a car.
TAXI: You can take a taxi from the Airport. It costs $36 for one person flat fee and then $15 (or so) for every additional person. Sometimes this is faster/easier/cheaper than Lyft.

LYFT: You can also take Lyft to locations. This should be fairly easy and reasonably priced.
BUS: The E-2 Bus. ($1.25) -- it drops you off either downtown or on Carrollton where you can transfer a city bus line.
STREETCAR: Depending on where you choose to stay, the streetcar may also be a great option. It stops about 1/10 of a mile from the Church and about 3/10 of a mile from the Picnic Reception. $1.25/ride. $1.50 if you want a transfer. For the reception make sure you get a streetcar headed to CITY PARK. Here's a MAP of city Transit.

BICYCLE: Once here, there are Blue Bikes you can rent to get around.

Things to Do.
We hope that you take the opportunity to visit New Orleans while you are here. Here are a few suggestions that come to mind:

1. Walk around the French Quarter. Check out the busking musicians on Royal Street, eat a beignet at Cafe Du Monde, walk along the Mississippi River, and visit some of the historic sites. There are also plenty of good dive bars including Molly's at the Market and Chart Room.

2. Take the Ferry from the foot of Canal Street ($2 each way) across the Mississippi River to Old Algiers. Walk along the levee and grab a snack at The Crown and Anchor English Pub right off of the ferry stop.

3. Take the Streetcar up St. Charles Avenue. This is an original streetcar, very scenic past old Oak Trees and mansion homes. It goes all the way to Tulane. You can visit Audobon Park at the end, or get off around Washington Avenue and go the cemetery at 1416 Washington Ave and enjoy lunch at Commander's Palace.

4. Here are some restaurants that you might enjoy:
-
Madina's (Creole Italian Food)
-
Parkway Bakery and Tavern (classic poboy spot. Our fave move is to order it to go and eat it by the Bayou -- you can get your beer to go).
-
Angelo Broccato's for desert. We had our first date here and continue to visit regularly.
-
Emeril's -- near Hotel 77. upscale restaurant with classic new orleans food.
-
Neyow's Creole Cafe -- local spot with lots of new orleans classic food.
-
Bacchanal's -- Outdoor seating. "bare bones bohemian" with live music. Wine cellar with cheese plates and heavy appetizers and meals.
-
Three Muses on Frenchmen Street - great mojitos/cocktails. Located centrally with local music. Music nightly. Can call for reservation.
-
Buffa's -- Open 24 hours, 365 days/year. Live music some nights and burger type fare. Located on edge of French Quarter.
-
Sooooo many other restaurants for you to explore and tell us all about!

Listen to some live local music. Here is a listing of the music going on the weekend of our wedding (click 3/15 or 3/16 -- it will update closer to the date). You can walk down Frenchmen street, see some live brass bands (don't forget to tip!) and go in and out of bars. Usually there is no cover, though a one drink minimum.

Here is a convenient list of places to go many of which we love.
Happy travels.
